What's Quantum been up to?
There's a lot going on at Quantum.
The picture in the shipping industry can be best described as unsettled or patchy. Some sectors have been struggling, with day charter rates and port throughputs down, but others have been better insulated - as one would expect - such as oil and gas. Ship owners with cash behind them have been taking the opportunity to order shipbuilding slots that others have dropped out of - and getting some very good prices as a result of funding difficulties and / or a lack of confidence in the future of the market.
We think there has been a - generally positive - adjustment made in people's minds to the new world paradigm. It's not going to be like it was again for some time to come, if ever, but in the meantime life must go on. Those with robust business models who didn't owe too much when the crunch came have generally survived, which is fair enough. It's evolution in progress.
This new world order simply underlines to us the need for companies to fully explore their markets (or new markets) for opportunities, ensure they understand their customers' needs well and present themselves effectively.
